Reading Reflection No.3
“How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big” by Scott Adams
1) The general theme of this book is that failure helps guide you in different directions. It pushed you towards bigger and better things and should not cause you to give up. Instead, it should be seen as an opportunity.
2) The book in my, opinion, connects with a lot of the topics we have talked about in this class. Many of the assignments are geared towards helping you accept failure as a learning tool rather than discouraging.
3) If I were to create an exercise for this class I would have people seek rejection or failure. I would have students write about their failure and how it made them feel. I would also have them talk about what they learned from their failure and what they plan to change in the future.
4) I found his view on goals interesting. He views goals as problematic and oppressing. Personally, I think goals are helpful to point you in a general direction but can see how it limits creativity. Also, it leaves you focused on chasing the same thing that may be well out of reach and constantly leave you disappointed.
Hey! The point made on how goals are used and the impacts that they have on us is interesting. I never really viewed it as a limiting factor to the degree in which creativity can be achieved. Also, I would like to see how you would get students to see rejection or failure.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great overview of this book. Great job! I read this book as well and this entrepreneur looked at his failures as opportunities to change and grow. I also agree that this book covers pretty much everything we've gone over in class. It's perfect for people studying in this field. I think the same about failures, I believe they are all opportunities to be changed into something better.
